Second Quarter Surge Pushes Women’s Lacrosse Past Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team used a dominant five-goal second quarter to pull away from Maritime College and secure a 12-6 road victory, improving to 2-0 to open the 2026 season.

Charley Lengel-Kramer got the Aggies on the board early, scoring just three minutes into the contest with a solo effort. Maritime answered midway through the quarter, but Abbie Hostetler quickly responded by scooping up a loose ball off a save and finishing to put DelVal back in front. Maritime tied the game late in the frame to make it 2-2 after one.

Lengel-Kramer opened the second quarter with her second goal of the afternoon to give the Aggies another one-goal edge before Maritime again evened the score at 3-3. Delaware Valley then seized control with a four-goal run. Emmy Gagnon and Lengel-Kramer scored back-to-back before Gagnon added her second of the game and Daisy Kovacs found the back of the net, giving the Aggies a 7-3 advantage at halftime.

After nearly eight scoreless minutes to start the third quarter, Lengel-Kramer netted her fourth goal of the game. Two minutes later, Hostetler converted on a free-position attempt to extend the lead to 9-3. Maritime scored in the final 20 seconds of the quarter to make it 9-4 heading into the final frame.

Gabriella Guerra opened the fourth-quarter scoring with a free-position goal just 2:30 in to push the Aggies' lead back to six. Maritime answered quickly, but a seven-minute scoring drought ended when Guerra struck again. Maritime responded within 30 seconds before Kovacs capped the scoring with a free-position goal to secure the 12-6 DelVal win.

Lengel-Kramer led the Aggies with four goals while firing 11 shots, including 10 on goal. Castanaga-Acerra paced the team with five ground balls, while Guerra and Hostetler each recorded three draw controls. Victoria Offenburger and Piper Jones both caused two turnovers. In goal, Emily Drake played all 60 minutes and made 14 saves on 20 shots.

The Aggies return to action on the road this week in Hilton Head, South Carolina, facing Western New England on Tuesday, March 10 at 9:30 a.m.
