Women’s Lacrosse Drops Contest to Western New England

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team traveled to Hilton Head, South Carolina to face off against Western New England in a spring break showdown but struggled to gain offensive momentum dropping the contest 17-5.
 
Western New England jumped out to an early 2-0 start in the opening seven minutes. Charley Lengel-Kramer was the first so strike for the Aggies, scoring in the 10th minute to cut the deficit, 2-1.
 
The Golden Bears took a five-goal run into the start of the second quarter to extend their lead to 7-1 before the Aggies bean to gain offensive momentum. A save from Emily Drake created a loose ball scooped up by Gabriella Guerra to put the Aggies in possession. Abbie Hostetler made the play for the unassisted goal just 20 seconds later. Piper Jones won the draw immediately making a play to Lengel-Kramer for the Aggies third goal of the game.
 
Western New England got one by Drake, but Hostetler was ready controlling the draw and converting the goal to cut the deficit to half, 8-4. The Golden Bears ended the half on a four-goal run to take a 12-4 lead into the break.
 
The Golden Bears added two more out of the break, but a green card gave the Aggies a man-up advantage with just under five minutes left in the third quarter. Jones' shot made her way into the back of the net to hand the Aggies their fifth and final goal of the game. WNE added three more in the final quarter, holding DelVal scoreless for the 17-5 win.
 
Lengel-Kramer and Hostetler led the Aggies in scoring with two goals apiece and three shots on goal each. Lengel-Kramer fired off a team-high six shots. Guerra scooped up a team-high three ground balls and controlled four draws alongside Jones. Drake played all 60 minutes in the net making three saves.
 
DelVal returns to action down in Hilton Head tomorrow morning facing Moravian at 11:30 a.m.
