PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Aggies opened their spring break schedule Friday night against Neumann, who handed DelVal their first loss of the season in a 16–8 loss. Saturday saw DelVal take on Lancaster Bible College in a doubleheader, winning the first game 5-4 but losing the second game 6-2.
Game 1 – Neumann University
The Aggies scored first with a
Gavin Migliori home run off the first pitch, giving Delaware Valley a 1–0 lead in the opening inning. Neumann responded immediately in the bottom half, rallying five times in the inning to take a 5–1 lead.
DelVal trimmed the deficit in the third.
Pat Higgins reached after being hit by a pitch and advanced on an error before Migliori singled to put runners on the corners.
Liam Martin brought Higgins home with a groundout to the right side, and
Ben Boyer followed with an RBI single to score Migliori. Later in the frame,
Lucas Santise added another run-scoring single to bring home Boyer and cut the margin to 5–4.
However, the Knights pulled away with convincing third and fourth innings. Armiger singled to open the frame and came home when Feliz doubled to the gap. Neumann added another run on a groundout and took advantage of a wild pitch that allowed Fields to score. Brown followed with an RBI single, Armiger added a two-run double, and Feliz finished the inning with a two-run single as the Knights pushed across eight runs and stretched the lead to 13–4. Neumann continued to add to the lead in the fourth when Brown doubled to drive in Rakotz and Ciesielka, making it 15–4.
Travis Loewe started the game for Delaware Valley and worked the first two innings before
Mason Curtier took over in the third.
Andrew Cullinan followed with two innings of relief, striking out three while allowing two runs.
Gavin Lauer handled the next two innings and limited Neumann to one hit during that stretch, while
Pat Barrett closed out the final inning without allowing a run.
Delaware Valley generated a late rally in the seventh.
Mick Brunelli drew a walk and stole second before
Jake Seibert reached on a walk as well. Santise delivered an RBI double to bring Brunelli home, and
Lachlan Segedy followed with a two-run single that scored Santise and Seibert. A passed ball and throwing error allowed
Kody Boyer to cross the plate as the Aggies plated four runs in the inning to cut the deficit to 15–8.
Neumann added one more run in the bottom half when Jordan Tocci came home on a groundout by Feliz to account for the final margin of 16-8.
Game 2 – Lancaster Bible College
The Aggies produced a quick three-run inning in the first.
Liam Martin opened the rally with a single and moved to third when
Nathan Fisher followed with a hit through the left side. Fisher then stole second before
Ben Boyer lined an RBI single to left, scoring Martin. After
Aidan Devlin was hit by a pitch,
Kody Boyer sent a single through the left side to bring Fisher home.
Andrew Cullinan added another run moments later, reaching on a fielder's choice that allowed
Ben Boyer to score and give Delaware Valley a 3–0 advantage.
Lancaster Bible worked its way back in the fourth. Stephan singled and Sareyka reached after being hit by a pitch before a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. Smith drove a double down the left-field line to score two, and Fox followed with another double to left that plated Smith and evened the score at 3–3.
Colin Foley handled the first four innings for Delaware Valley, allowing three runs while striking out four.
James DeHaven entered in relief and covered the next three innings, keeping the game within reach while limiting Lancaster Bible to one unearned run.
The Chargers moved ahead in the seventh when Witkowski doubled to left-center and advanced to third on an error. Bell later lifted a sacrifice fly to right that brought Witkowski home, giving Lancaster Bible a 4–3 lead.
In the bottom half, Martin started the inning with a single through the left side, and Fisher followed with another hit to put two runners on. After
Ben Boyer advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt, Devlin delivered the decisive swing with a single to center that scored Martin and Fisher, putting the Aggies back in front 5–4.
DeHaven finished the final three innings to earn the save-like effort, allowing just one run over his outing as Delaware Valley held on for the one-run victory. Martin and Fisher each recorded two hits and scored twice, while Devlin drove in the game-winning runs in the seventh.
Game 3 – Lancaster Bible College
DelVal moved ahead in the opening frame despite not recording a hit.
Gavin Migliori reached on a throwing error and eventually moved to third following another miscue.
Liam Martin drew a walk and
Nathan Fisher was hit by a pitch to load the bases before
Nate Ludwick lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Migliori to score for a 1–0 lead.
Lancaster Bible answered in the third. Witkowski singled and moved into scoring position on an error before Peña worked a walk. Stephan then drove a double into left-center field that brought both runners home, giving the Chargers a 2–1 advantage.
The Chargers extended the margin in the fourth during a lengthy rally. Stein started the inning with a single and Grimm followed with another base hit. After a wild pitch moved both runners up and Peterson was hit by a pitch, Witkowski delivered an RBI single through the left side to score Stein. Another wild pitch allowed Grimm to cross the plate, and Stephan added to the surge later in the inning with a two-run single that pushed the lead to 6–1.
DelVal trimmed the deficit in the fifth, with
John Dzielawa reaching on a walk and advancing on a wild pitch before Martin lined a triple into right field to bring him home, making it 6–2.
Bertsch controlled the game for Lancaster Bible, working six innings while allowing only one hit and two runs, one earned. He struck out seven and walked three to earn the victory. Evan Sareyka handled the final inning to close out the game.
Witkowski led the Chargers offensively with three hits and two runs scored, while Stephan finished with two hits and four RBIs. Martin accounted for Delaware Valley's lone hit with his RBI triple.
