Women’s Lacrosse Fails to Hang on in Loss to Immaculata

DOYLESTOWN, PA. Delaware Valley's women's lacrosse fell to Immaculata, 12-7, on Wednesday night after a back-and-forth first half.

The Aggies started off strong, gaining draw control from the jump of the game. After forcing a turnover, Gabriella Guerra secured a ground ball to initiate the sequence of Piper Jones scoring the first goal with an assist from Abbie Hostetler. The Aggies got three shots off in a matter of under 20 seconds at 11:32 on the clock, but failed to convert.

Immaculata responded with a successful clear attempt and their first goal was put in. A minute later, Hostetler had another assist to Charley Lengel-Kramer for their second team goal. Not going away, the Mighty Macs got a free position attempt with a wide shot, but recovered through two successful goals. With 0:02 left in the quarter, Hostetler tied up the game 3-3.

Off to an aggressive start of the second quarter on defense, both teams caused back-to-back turnovers. After saving a shot, Immaculata successfully converted their clear attempt into two early goals for the lead. Not letting them pull away yet, Jones took advantage of a man-up situation to secure her second goal of the night. The Mighty Macs were stunned and gave up a turnover that led to Hostetler securing the game-tying goal off of Lengel-Kramer's assist. Trying to take control of the game again, Immaculata gets a goal on a man-up free position shot.

The third quarter remained with the Immaculata offense dominating. After Jones was awarded a yellow card early, the Mighty Macs capitalized on another man-up situation for their second goal within three minutes. Following a failed clear attempt by the Aggies, Immaculata used the opportunity to grow their lead more, creating a 9-5 lead and forcing Delaware Valley to take a timeout. The Aggies defense attempted to hold them off, forcing four turnovers and two saves from Abigail Guarneri until the last minute of the quarter when Immaculata scored

With an offensively quiet first 5:35 of the fourth quarter, Hosteler broke the silence in an attempt for a last Aggies push. Immaculata was forced to take a timeout. In yet another man-up situation, the Mighty Macs were able to find the net late in the quarter. The Aggies showed persistence with Guerra scoring a goal off of an Immaculata turnover. Nonetheless, the Aggies could not hang on as Immaculata secured their win with yet another goal to end the game.

Following the loss, the Aggies fall to 4-5 overall. The next game for the Aggies is senior night on Saturday, March 18 when they take on Albright College at home.
