CHESTERTOWN. Md. – Delaware Valley dropped non-conference matchup to Washington College, 14–4, as the Shoremen used a pair of big early innings to build separation.
Washington College struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on walks and aggressive baserunning before Wozniak delivered a two-run single to make it 3–0.
The Aggies responded in the second inning, loading the bases and getting on the board with an RBI single from Kody Boyer. Nathan Fisher followed with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 3–2.
The Shoremen answered immediately with a six-run second inning, using a mix of timely hits and defensive miscues to extend the lead to 9–2. Washington added two more in the third, including an RBI single from Kinsey and a sacrifice fly from Connolly, pushing the advantage to 11–3.
DelVal picked up a run in the third on an RBI groundout from Andrew Cullinan, but Washington continued to add on in the fifth with a two-run triple from Connolly to make it 13–3.
The Aggies added a run in the seventh when Jared Ecenroad reached on an error, allowing Aidan Devlin to score, but Washington capped the scoring in the eighth with an RBI hit-by-pitch.
Delaware Valley finished with nine hits in the game, led by Boyer, who collected three hits and an RBI. Daniel Murphy added two hits, while Devlin scored twice.
Landon Bietz got the start for the Aggies, with Ben Boyer and Lucas Santise providing early relief. Aidan Walsh and Pat Barrett followed out of the bullpen, while Gavin Lauer delivered two scoreless innings late in the game.
Washington College was led by Connolly, who drove in five runs, and Wozniak, who added four RBIs in the win.
Delaware Valley will look to bounce back on Wednesday March 25th at home against Penn State Abington at 3:30pm.
