Baseball Drops Midweek Contest to PSU-Abington

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley baseball let the game get away in the third inning, falling to PSU-Abington 15-6 on Wednesday afternoon.

Liam Martin walked and Jared Ecenroad singled through the right side in the first, but Ecenroad was caught stealing to end the inning.

In the second, Abington loaded the bases, but Damian Pipitone forced a groundout to keep the game scoreless. When the Aggies came up to bat, Aidan Devlin reached on an error that pushed Aidan Walsh to third. Lachlan Segedy then laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Walsh and give DelVal a 1-0 lead.

Busco homered for the Nittany Lions to begin the third inning. With runners on the corners, Horvath doubled down the left-field line to plate two runs. Abington then loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch and a walk before Schurga singled up the middle to drive in two more. Gagnon later scored on a wild pitch, and Schurga came home when Busco reached on another Aggies error to extend the lead to 7-1.

In the fourth, the Aggies loaded the bases with one out but were unable to bring a run across.

After the Lions added another run in the fifth, DelVal responded. Nathan Fisher walked before Ecenroad doubled down the left-field line. Ben Boyer entered as a pinch hitter and cracked a double to score Fisher. Segedy reached on an error that allowed Ecenroad to score, and Matteo Viola lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Boyer. Gavin Migliori later plated Walsh, who had walked earlier in the inning, cutting the deficit to 8-5.

Later, trailing 11-5 in the eighth after a 1-2-3 inning from Pat Barrett, Migliori singled and stole both second and third. Fisher followed with a sacrifice fly to left field to drive him in.

Abington added four runs on five hits in the ninth to secure the 15-6 final.

With the loss, the Aggies fall to 6-12 overall. They will return to action on Friday, March 27, hosting DeSales at 3:30 p.m. at home.
