Aggies Edged Out by Manhattanville at Home

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team battled back to even the score in the second quarter, but a pair of scoring runs by Manhattanville proved too much to overcome as the Aggies fell 12-8 at home on Wednesday.

Manhattanville struck quickly, jumping out to a 2-0 lead just two minutes into play. Abbie Hostetler answered for DelVal five minutes in with an unassisted tally, and after the Valiants added another, she buried her second goal of the quarter to cut the deficit to 3-2 heading into the second.

Hostetler stayed hot in the second quarter, linking up with Charley Lengel-Kramer midway through the frame to complete her hat trick and knot the game at 3-3. The Valiants, however, seized momentum late in the half and into the third, using a 3-0 run to build a 6-3 advantage.

The Aggies responded with a push of their own. Hostetler found Gabriella Guerra for a finish before adding another goal herself to trim the deficit to one. After Manhattanville answered, Emmy Gagnon converted off a Hostetler feed to keep DelVal within striking distance at a one-goal game.

Manhattanville created separation in the fourth, stringing together another three-goal run to extend the lead to 10-6. Gagnon and Hostetler connected once again to cut it back to three, but the Valiants delivered the decisive blow with two goals in a 45-second span, stretching their lead to 12-7.

Hostetler capped her standout performance with a late goal in the final minutes, but the Aggies ultimately came up short, 12-8.

Hostetler led Delaware Valley with five goals on 12 shots, including nine on target. Piper Jones controlled the draw with a team-high seven, while Guerra added seven ground balls. In goal, Emily Drake made 13 saves on 25 shots faced.

DelVal returns to action on the road Saturday, March 21, with a 1 p.m. matchup at Kean University.
