Baseball Shutout by Cougars in Conference Doubleheader

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - The Aggies kicked off their conference play Friday night against Misericordia, seeing them fall to the Cougars on the road 17-9. After being postponed from Saturday, the series picked up today with a doubleheader to close out the series.

Game 1 | Delaware Valley 5 – Misericordia 9
The Cougars opened the scoring in the first inning after a pair of walks and an error put runners on base. Diaz delivered a two-run single to left field, bringing home Kanwisher and Dillard for a 2–0 lead.

Delaware Valley answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning when Gavin Migliori launched a solo home run to left-center, trimming the deficit to one.

Misericordia added to its lead in the second inning. After two batters reached base, Dillard lined a two-run double to left field. Patten followed with another run-scoring double before Daminger lifted a sacrifice fly to center, stretching the lead to 6–1.

The Aggies began to chip away in the fifth. With the bases loaded, Matteo Viola drove a double to right field that scored Liam Martin and Migliori. Ben Boyer followed with a groundout that brought home Nathan Fisher, cutting the deficit to 6–4.

Delaware Valley pulled within a run in the sixth. After Taylor McKeta reached on a hit-by-pitch and Mick Brunelli entered as a pinch runner, Migliori doubled to left to set up another scoring opportunity. Martin then reached on a fielding error that allowed Brunelli to cross the plate, making it 6–5.

Misericordia regained control in the seventh. Following a hit-by-pitch and a walk, Duda delivered a three-run home run to left field to extend the Cougars' lead to 9–5.

Migliori led Delaware Valley offensively with three hits, including the first-inning home run, while Viola drove in two runs with his fifth-inning double. Colin Foley took the loss after allowing six runs over four innings of work.

Misericordia starter Schmidt earned the win, holding the Aggies to four runs across five innings before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Game 2 | Delaware Valley 8 – Misericordia 23
Misericordia started hot, scoring in the first when Patten lined an RBI single through the right side to make it 1–0. Misericordia added three more in the second with help from an RBI single by Cordner and aggressive baserunning that included multiple stolen bases.

DelVal responded in the bottom half of the second. Ben Boyer singled and moved into scoring position before Lucas Santise doubled to set up a pair of runs. Nate Ludwick drove in the first with a groundout, and Taylor McKeta followed with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 4–2.

After Misericordia stretched the lead to 7–2, the Aggies produced their biggest push of the game in the fourth inning. Matteo Viola and Boyer opened the frame with singles, and Santise delivered an RBI base hit to left center. Ludwick brought another run home on a fielder's choice, and Gavin Migliori followed with an RBI single. Liam Martin capped the rally with a two-run single to center, evening the score at 7–7.

The tie did not last long. Misericordia reclaimed the lead in the fifth with three runs, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Duda and a run scoring on a wild pitch.

DelVal trimmed the margin to 10–8 in the bottom of the fifth when Daniel Murphy lined an RBI single to right center to score Ludwick.

From there, the Cougars broke the game open. Misericordia erupted for eight runs in the sixth inning, using timely hits, hit batters, and a defensive miscue to extend the lead to 18–8. The visitors added five more in the seventh, including a two-run double from Duda and an RBI triple by St. Pierre.

Offensively, Santise led the Aggies with three hits and an RBI, while Boyer collected two hits and scored twice. Martin added two hits and two RBIs during the fourth-inning rally.
