HILTON HEAD, S.C. — Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team was taken down by Moravian, 19-0, on the second day of their spring break showdown in South Carolina. Coming off of their first loss of the season yesterday, the Aggies struggled to find their momentum again.
Moravian came out strong, securing the first three draw controls to set the tone for a 5-0 lead by 10:24 in the first quarter. After taking a timeout, the Aggies forced a turnover and had a successful clear attempt before turning the ball back over. Moravian remained offensively dominant despite gaining a green card, leading 9-0 to end the first quarter.
Coming into the second quarter with more emphasis on the defensive end, Delaware Valley induced the Greyhounds to miss two shots within the first minute and were given another green card. After the first goal in the second quarter, Piper Jones took control before an offensive timeout. The Aggies recovered from their turnover to pressure a missed shot and turnover, holding the Greyhounds to only three goals to end the quarter.
Early in the third, Emmy Gagnon won draw control, giving herself a lane for a shot on goal. Moravian responded with a save followed by a good clear attempt that led to yet another offensive run to score three times in the first 4:25 of the quarter. Jones gained ball control and was followed by a ground ball pickup from Gabriella Guerra and a shot on target from Hostetler. Their momentum carried on through a yellow and green card given to Moravian, allowing for another shot attempt on target as well as forcing a turnover.
The Aggies only allowed two points in the entire fourth quarter as they forced Moravian to miss eight of their shots. While their defense had rallied the team, Delaware Valley was not able to get any shots off in the last period, officially handing them their second loss of the season.
Overall on the offensive end, Hostetler had five of Delaware Valley's six looks on target with four free shot attempts, two of which were fired in the span of seven seconds on the game clock. While defensively, junior goalie, Emily Drake, persisted through the entire duration of the game accumulating almost double the amount of saves from both of Moravian's goalies combined.
