MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Delaware Valley baseball saw an early lead slip away to Rivier on Tuesday afternoon, falling 10-6.
Kody Boyer walked to open the game and Liam Martin followed with an infield single before Nathan Fisher singled through the left side to score Boyer. Matteo Viola then grounded out to second base, bringing Martin home to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
After Martin and Fisher reached base again to begin the third, Viola delivered another single to score both runners. Viola later stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Bren Boyer grounded out but brought Viola home, extending DelVal's lead to 5-0.
Damian Pipiton started on the mound for the Aggies, pitching 3.0 innings and striking out four.
Rivier got on the board in the fourth when Aliberti reached and advanced on a stolen base and a balk before scoring on a wild pitch.
The Raiders loaded the bases with walks in the fifth and plated two runs when Aliberti singled up the middle, cutting the Aggies' lead to 5-3.
In the sixth inning, Stott scored on a passed ball before Medlock doubled to bring in McDonald and tie the game. With runners on second and third, Innerfield singled to right field to score both runners and give Rivier the lead. Travis Loewe then recorded a pop-up, fly out, and ground out to end the inning.
Connor Newman pitched the seventh inning for DelVal, allowing three runs while striking out two.
The Aggies added one more run in the ninth when Martin doubled and later advanced to third after two DelVal batters were hit by pitches. Jared Ecenroad lifted a sacrifice fly to score Martin, making the final score 10-6.
With the loss, the Aggies fall to 5-4 overall. Delaware Valley will wrap up its spring break trip on Wednesday, March 11 with a game against The University of Olivet at 9:00 a.m.
