Men's Lacrosse Drops Back-and-Forth Battle with Albright

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley men's lacrosse traded leads throughout the afternoon but came up short in a 10-7 loss to Albright College on Saturday.

Jake Devereaux fired the first shot of the game on the opening possession, but it sailed wide. Minutes later, James Cadott forced a turnover that led to shots from Dalton Richter and Peter DelRossi, though neither found the net. After another caused turnover by Ashton Benkwitt, Cadott connected with Kieran Schneider, who opened the scoring 5:50 into the contest.

Daniel Hickling made an early save before the Aggies were assessed a penalty. The Lions capitalized on the man-up opportunity to tie the game at one. Following the restart, Albright applied pressure and eventually took the lead when Hanson scored.

The Lions added another goal off a DelVal turnover, but with 4:57 remaining in the second quarter, Hickling made a stop that sparked a transition chance, finished by Luke Witko to cut into the deficit. Albright controlled much of the closing stretch of the half, though Hickling kept the Aggies within reach with three key saves.

After several turnovers to open the third quarter, Hanson extended the Lions' lead before DelVal responded. Witko and Devereaux each found the back of the net to tie the game at four. Following an illegal body check by Albright, Schneider converted on the man-up opportunity off an assist from DelRossi to give the Aggies the lead.

Albright answered with a transition goal to even the score again, and after DelVal successfully killed a penalty, a turnover led to Moroney scoring with 2:26 left in the quarter. Hickling made another save in the final seconds to keep the Aggies within one at 6-5.

In the fourth quarter, goals from Antonio and Hanson pushed the Lions ahead before Richter tallied his first of the season to keep DelVal in contention. Albright continued to test Hickling and added two more goals to extend the lead to 10-6 with 2:19 remaining. Cadott forced a late turnover that led to Schneider's second goal of the game, but the comeback attempt fell short as the Lions secured the 10-7 victory.

With the loss, the Aggies fall to 0-2 overall. Delaware Valley returns to action at home on Wednesday, March 4, hosting Immaculata at 7:00 p.m.
