DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team welcomed Misericordia to James Work Gymnasium for the home conference opener on Tuesday night. DelVal dropped a three-set decision, falling by scores of 25-9, 29-15 and 25-18.
Misericordia came out strong in the opening set, using an aggressive service game and steady hitting to set the tone early. The Cougars tallied 10 service aces on the evening and hit at a .137 clip, while DelVal struggled to find consistency on the attack, finishing with a team total of 16 kills and a hitting percentage of –.052. Despite the offensive challenges, the Aggies continued to battle point for point and showed signs of momentum throughout the second and third sets.
The highlight stretch for DelVal came in the third set when the Aggies pushed Misericordia early and pulled within two points at 7–5. Strong defensive play kept the Cougars from pulling away quickly, and the Aggies remained within striking distance until the late stages before Misericordia closed the match.
Individually, several Aggies turned in strong performances.
Monique Smith led the attack with four kills and added three blocks at the net to pace the front line.
Madison Alexander directed the offense with a team-high nine assists, while
Samantha Wilton anchored the defense, collecting 11 digs to lead all players.
Kai Logan also contributed two blocks as the Aggies matched Misericordia's total of four on the night.
The Aggies will take 48 hours to regroup before returning to action this Thursday, Oct. 2 on the road at Rosemont for a 7 p.m. start time.
