GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.- The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team stayed steady on the road with their first road win against Gwynedd Mercy University. The win marks the Aggies' third straight to open the year, following a 4-1 victory over Eastern and an 8-0 shutout of Penn State Scranton.
The Aggies controlled the pace from the opening whistle, and despite multiple chances, it wasn't until the 35
th minute that they broke through.
Elijah Purtle delivered the opening to give DelVal the 1-0 edge heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Aggies gained more momentum to finish the game. In the 47
th minute,
Nathan Congdon found himself connecting with the net to make it 2-0. Just four minutes later,
Roy Hevener added to the tally to put the Aggies up 3-0.The scoring flurry continued as Gianluca D'Alterio would close out the game with a goal in the 54
th minute to put the score 4-0. Gwynedd Mercy tried to respond with a shot that would be saved by Nick Beck in the 59
th minute. In goal,
Nick Becker made two saves in over 69 minutes of action before
Aiden Lane closed out the shutout.
With the road victory, the Aggies improve to 3-0 on the season. They will return to action at home in Doylestown on Saturday, September 6
th, against Penn State Berks.
