DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley field hockey team found themselves in a stalemate with Ramapo after 60 minutes of regulation play sending the game into overtime where first-year
Maggie Fijal netted the golden goal to push the Aggies to a 2-1 victory over the Roadrunners.
Four minutes and 43 seconds into the game, DelVal earned its second offensive penalty corner of the game. The play worked its way out to
Alex Graffius out front of the goalie. Graffius fired a shot toward the left point where Fijal was waiting for the tip it to quickly put the Aggies on the board, 1-0.
The DelVal defense held Ramapo to just two shots in the frame while the Aggies attempted to expand its lead with four more shots. Neither team was able to convert the goal before time ran out.
Offensive momentum found its way to the Roadrunners to start the second quarter.
Brooke Golbeski stuffed Ramapo's first shot attempt while the Aggies' defense forced the second attempt wide. In the 23
rd minute, Ramapo earned their second offensive penalty corner, this time finding success and evening the score, 1-1.
DelVal held the shot advantage in the second half, tallying seven shots while holding the Roadrunners to just four. Of the four shots from Ramapo, Golbeski took on two, making key saves to prevent the Roadrunners from gaining the lead and forcing the game into overtime.
Just 24 seconds into extra play, the Aggies drew the offensive penalty corner.
Kenzie Boyd fired off the shot, blocked by the Ramapo defense and pushed out of play to put the Aggies back in possession five yards out from the top of the Roadrunners defensive circle.
Brynne Miller set up the play working the ball into the circle ultimately finding Fijal out front of the cage for the shot to the bottom left to push the Aggies to victory over Ramapo, 2-1.
Miller led the Aggies in shots with five in the game while Fijal led in shots on goal with two. Golbeski played a total of 60 minutes and 50 seconds in the cage tallying four saves.
DelVal returns to action on the road this Tuesday, Sep. 30 when they face Drew at 4 p.m.
