Golbeski Tallies Double-Digit Saves in Loss to Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Delaware Valley University field hockey team fell to Moravian after a late scoring push prevailed for the Greyhounds, 2-0.

Moravian's offense set the pace in the first frame and tested the strength of Aggies' goalkeeper Brook Golbeski with five shots all saved by the Golbeski. Just over the four-minute mark DelVal saw its first chance in the Greyhounds circle with Kenzie Boyd taking the shot blocked by the defense. Ava Smadi and Alex Graffius each tried their hand at the cage in the first 15 minutes, both shots stopped by Moravian goalkeeper Maia Machado.

Action slowed on both sides until the 21st minute. The Greyhounds fired off two shots across a five-minute span, both stuffed by Golbeski. The Aggies earned an offensive penalty corner with just 1:08 to go in the half. Kaylee Hartung worked the ball off the baseline to Boyd for the shot blocked yet again by the Moravian defense.

Fresh off the break, the Greyhounds struck breaking the scoreless battle in the 31st minute. Boyd worked to even the score firing off two more shots in the quarter. Machado stopped the first attempt while the second went wide of the cage.

Just under three minutes into the final frame, Moravian drew an offensive penalty corner. The DelVal defense and Golbeski stopped the attempt but committed a foul in the process to award the Greyhounds another shot. This time Moravian converted the play and extended its lead to 2-0. Golbeski made three more saves in the frame and the Aggies' defense blocked two shots to prevent the Greyhounds from expanding on their lead. Smadi made a final attempt for the Aggies with just 35 seconds remaining sending the shot wide.

Boyd led the Aggies in shots with four total. Golbeski played all 30 minutes in the cage making 13 saves on 15 shots faced.

The Aggies take a week off before returning to action next Saturday, Sep. 27 when they host Ramapo at 6 p.m.
