Men's Soccer Tops Saint Elizabeth in Physical Battle

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. — Delaware Valley men's soccer earned a 4-1 victory over Saint Elizabeth University in a physical contest on Wednesday night.

After a brief lightning delay, Ahmed had the first look for the Eagles just over a minute in, but sent it wide. Amos Debah followed with two more chances in the 19th and 22nd minutes that missed the frame. Nick Becker made his first save in the 26th before Everett Kurts tested Gonzalez at the other end. The game turned chippy soon after, with Saint Elizabeth's Almir Mata shown a red card. Moments later, Kelvin Murray was booked with a yellow after colliding with the keeper.

The Aggies broke through just over a minute into the second half when Gianluca D'Alterio chipped home a goal off a pass from Roy Hevener. Five minutes later, Nathan Congdon redirected Aaron Osborne's shot into the net to make it 2-0. After another Becker save, Hevener added a third goal in the 57th minute, before Congdon was handed a yellow card following the play.

The Eagles spoiled the shutout in the 77th minute when Figuero scored, but DelVal answered back. In the 82nd minute, Kam Geiger drew a foul in the box and calmly buried the penalty to restore the three-goal lead. On the sequence, Saint Elizabeth's keeper Gonzalez picked up his first yellow card, and just a minute later, received his second and was sent off.

The Aggies closed out the match despite more physicality. Zydan Stewart was shown a yellow in the 82nd, and with 13 seconds left, Jofiel Contreras was also booked for a late foul on the keeper.

Following the win, Delaware Valley improves to 7-1 overall. The Aggies now begin a four-game road swing, starting Saturday, Sept. 20 at Penn State Brandywine.
