LANGHORNE, Pa. — Rena Kotsedakis scored the game-winner in the final five minutes as Delaware Valley women's soccer earned its first win of the season, 3-2, over Cairn University on Wednesday.
Alexa DelGiudice and Cairn's Smith traded early chances before
Jarleny Aguilar-Acuna put the Aggies on the board, finishing off a rebound from Kotsedakis. DelVal kept the pressure on, firing five more shots wide before DelGiudice forced a save.
Nicole Ocejo made her first stop in the 30th minute, and moments later an offsides call turned play the other way.
Erin Shuey connected with
Piper Jones, who buried her chance to double the Aggies' lead. Kotsedakis nearly made it three, but her shot rang off the post in the 34th minute.
In the second half,
Marissa Rogers had an attempt saved while Aguilar-Acuna and
Jenna Green both missed just wide. With
Jenelle Frye stepping in at goalkeeper, Cairn struck twice in quick succession in the 69th and 73rd minutes to even the match. In the 82nd, Rogers hit the post off a feed from Jones, but Kotsedakis delivered the winner minutes later, slotting home off Green's assist past the keeper's outstretched hand. Frye made a clutch save in the final minutes to secure the result.
With the win, the Aggies improve to 1-5-1 on the season. They return to action Saturday, Sept. 20 at Cedar Crest College.
