COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — Delaware Valley women's soccer fell to Ursinus College, 5–0, on Sunday afternoon.
The Bears threatened early, forcing senior goalkeeper
Nicole Ocejo into a diving save just one minute in before sending another attempt wide. In the fifth minute,
Jarleny Aguilar-Acuna had a shot blocked, followed by two more off-target attempts from Ursinus. Ocejo stayed sharp with two more stops before Aguilar-Acuna pushed another chance wide. Ursinus nearly broke through in the 15th minute when Careless hit the post. Moments later,
Alexa DelGiudice tested Bears keeper Toomey, but her shot was saved. The Aggies were dealt a setback when first-year
Riley Petrie received a red card, ending her afternoon early. Ursinus finally capitalized in the 26th minute when Sanders cleaned up a rebound to make it 1–0.
Six minutes into the second half, Ocejo made back-to-back saves on Careless and Woch, but Ursinus doubled its lead shortly after on a strike from Holly. The Bears then struck three more times in quick succession, with goals from Careless, Jolie, and Krystkiewicz stretching the margin to 5–0.
Jenna Green picked up a yellow card in the 71st minute, but on the ensuing free kick, sophomore goalkeeper
Dekota Barthold — making her first appearance in goal of the season — came up with the save. Barthold added two more stops late, including one off a corner and another on a breakaway. DelVal earned some attacking pressure in the closing minutes but couldn't generate a final shot.
With the loss, the Aggies fall to 0–2 on the season. They return home Wednesday, September 3, to face Neumann University, who are set to join the MAC Commonwealth next academic year.
