DALLAS, Pa. – The Delaware Valley men's lacrosse team won the fourth quarter but ultimately fell 25-4 to Misericordia on Wednesday evening.
The Cougars opened the scoring just 70 seconds into the game and never looked back, netting 10 goals on 25 shots in the first quarter alone.
Down 13-0 just five minutes into the second quarter, the Aggies finally got on the board after a save by
Daniel Hickling and a successful clear.
Kieran Schneider buried a shot from 15 yards out for DelVal's first goal. Hickling made 10 saves in the opening half, while Schneider's goal stood as the team's only shot on target in the first 30 minutes.
In the third quarter,
Owen Kelly and Schneider each had shots saved, with Schneider also hitting the post. Despite taking three penalties during the quarter, the Aggies' penalty kill unit held strong and didn't allow a goal during Misericordia's man-up opportunities.
DelVal found more success in the final frame. Early in the fourth, Kelly battled through a pair of Cougar defenders to score. Later in the quarter, the Aggies capitalized on a man-up opportunity as
Luke Witko found the net off an assist from
Ashton Benkwitt, making it 25-3. Just over a minute later, Witko raced down the field and set up Schneider for his second goal of the game.
With the loss, the Aggies drop to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in MAC Freedom play. They return home on Saturday, April 12, to host Lebanon Valley at 1:00 p.m.
