Hickling Makes Career High Saves in Loss to LVC

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Three different Aggies found the back of the net, but the Delaware Valley men's lacrosse team fell to Lebanon Valley College, 25-4, on Saturday afternoon.

The Flying Dutchmen jumped out to a 4-0 lead just seven minutes into the game, prompting head coach Will Lawlor to call a timeout and regroup his squad. Out of the break, Kieran Schneider fired the Aggies' first shot on goal, but it was saved. As the first quarter wound down, DelVal had a pair of promising looks—Luke Witko's attempt sailed wide, and Schneider's second shot was turned away—leaving the Aggies trailing 7-0 after one.

Lebanon Valley extended the lead to 11-0 before Daniel Hickling made a pair of key saves. On the ensuing possession, Ryley Savering picked up a ground ball and scored his 10th goal of the season to get DelVal on the board. A man-up opportunity came and went for the Aggies, and shortly after it expired, LVC tacked on two more goals to go ahead 13-1 with 3:36 left in the half.

The Dutchmen continued their dominant run into the third quarter, building their lead before Sean Miller got a look at goal, though his shot went wide. Schneider had another chance late in the frame, but the LVC keeper made the save as the Aggies trailed 18-1 heading into the fourth.

Just 50 seconds into the final quarter, Schneider broke through, scoring on a feed from Miller to make it 18-2. LVC responded with three goals of its own. With 6:45 remaining, Danil Didden fought through traffic for a hard-earned clear, found Savering behind the cage, who then hit Owen Kelly with a pass—Kelly buried it for DelVal's third goal. After an LVC shot clock violation, Schneider struck again for his second tally of the day.

In net, Hickling played all 60 minutes and recorded a career-high 24 saves—just four shy of the Delaware Valley single-game record.

With the loss, the Aggies drop to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in MAC Freedom play. They return to action on Wednesday, April 16, with a road matchup at Arcadia University.
