WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Delaware Valley University baseball team four run ninth inning not enough for 15-7 loss to the Monarchs from King's College (Pa.).
After a scoreless first inning and second inning, the Monarchs struck first, putting up three runs in the bottom of the third. After a fielder's choice and a stolen base, King's scored on two back-to-back doubles. The Aggies ended the inning with a fly-out to right field. The Monarchs added two more runs to make it a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Aggies' offense kick-started in the top of the fifth inning after a lead-off walk from
Patrick Higgins. With runners on second and third,
Blake Ramos singled up the middle, putting two up on the board, cutting the Monarchs lead to three. After an Aggie pitching change, the Monarchs fought back and scored five runs in the bottom of the inning on four hits. The Aggies pulled a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. The Monarchs held the lead 10-2.
Braedyn Kormanic and
Jared Ecenroad started off the top of the sixth inning with back-to-back singles but were stranded on base after a Monarch double play and a strikeout. Kings put up five more runs to make it a 15-2 lead in the bottom of the inning on three hits.
John Dzielawa came into hit for L. Martin and singled to left field, starting the offense in the seventh inning for the Aggies. With runners on first and second,
Blake Ramos reached first on a fielder's choice play, but ultimately drove an Aggie run in cutting the Monarch's lead to 12 runs.
After a scoreless eighth inning, with Aggie base runners on first and second, Dzielawa homered off a new Monarchs pitcher cutting Kings lead down to nine. Ramos and Kormanic followed up with singles, with Ramos scoring on a wild pitch. With four runs in the last inning, the Monarch's took the second win of the series, 15-7.
The Aggies' next game is Friday, April 11
th at 3:30 p.m. when they face the Knights from Arcadia University in a MAC Freedom Conference match-up.
