Baseball’s Early Scoring Not Enough for Loss at Arcadia

AMBLER, Pa. – The Delaware Valley University baseball team drops both matches to the Knights from Arcadia University after scoring in the first inning of both games.

GAME 1: DVU 3 – ARCADIA 9

Reese Hackett led off the top of the first inning with a single to right field to start the Aggies' offense. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, and Blake Ramos followed with a single to move Hackett to third. A throwing error on a failed pick-off attempt allowed Hackett to cross the plate, giving the Aggies an early 1-0 lead to close out the inning.

The Knights quickly responded in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs on just two hits to take the lead. With the bases loaded, a walk brought in the tying run, followed by a wild pitch that allowed another run to score. The Knights added two more runs, one on a ground-out to second and another on an infield single, making it a 4-1 game. They added one more run to their lead in the bottom of the third inning.

The Aggies chipped away at the Knights' lead in the top of the fourth, cutting the deficit to two. Nate Ludwick and Braedyn Kormanic led off the inning with back-to-back singles. With runners on first and second, Jared Ecenroad ripped a double down the infield line to drive in a run. Patrick Higgins followed with a ground-out to first, allowing Kormanic to score. The Knights held the lead 5-3. The Knights added insurance in the bottom of the fifth, plating three runs on just one hit and an error to extend their lead to 8-3. They scored one more in the bottom of the sixth inning after a lead-off single and double. The Knights took game one 9-3.

GAME 2: DVU 1 – ARCADIA 9

With two outs in the first inning, Blake Ramos was hit by a pitch to become the Aggies' first base runner in game two. Nate Ludwick followed with a double and advanced to third on a throwing error, bringing Ramos home to give the Aggies an early 1-0 lead. The Aggies looked to extend their lead in the top of the second after loading the bases. Patrick Higgins reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a double by Gavin Migliori. Hackett drew a walk to fill the bases, but the Knights held firm, ending the threat with another fielder's choice play.

The Knights grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second, plating two runs on a single hit. With runners on second and third, D. Rivera delivered a single up the middle, driving in both and putting Arcadia ahead 2-1. They scored one more in the top of the third on two hits. Migliori looked to spark the Aggies' offense again in the top of the fourth with his second double of the game, but was left stranded after a ground-out and a strikeout left him stranded. The Knights pulled away in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on five hits. After back-to-back hits, a sacrifice bunt brought in one run. The Knights added four more with a fielder's choice and three consecutive singles, extending their lead to 8-1.

After a scoreless fifth inning, the Knights added one more in the bottom of the sixth, using two hits. In the top of the seventh, the Aggies loaded the bases with walks from Hackett, Ramos, and Andrew Schneider, but despite the opportunity, they couldn't find a gap for a hit, leaving the bases full. Arcadia took the second game 9-1. Migliori went 3-for-4 at the plate, recording a season-high two doubles.

The Aggies' next game is Monday, April 14th at 3:30 p.m. when they face the Knights for their third game in their MAC Freedom Conference series.
