DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley University baseball team drops the first of three games to the Ducks from the Stevens Institute of Technology in their MAC Freedom conference series 8-1.
The Ducks started their scoring run early, scoring one in the bottom of the second inning. After a lead-off single through the left side and a throwing error, the Ducks had runners on first and second base. A single down the right field line scored one and the Aggies ended the inning with a pop-fly to second base and a ground-ball to shortstop.
The Aggies had the chance to tie the game in the top of the third.
Daniel Murphy led-off and reached first on a throwing error. After a fielder's choice play
Patrick Higgins replaced Murphy on first after a bunt.
Liam Martin followed up with a single to second base, advancing Higgins to second.
Blake Ramos loaded the bases after getting hit by a pitch, but unfortunately all three were left stranded after a pop-fly to the Ducks' second baseman.
After a scoreless third and fourth inning, the Ducks added three more runs onto their lead. After back-to-back singles, a double to center field scored both runners. They scored their third run of the inning off of two ground-outs. The Aggies trailed by four. Stevens scored one more in the bottom of the sixth from a solo home-run.
Jared Ecenroad homered to begin the top of the seventh inning, putting the Aggies within five. The Ducks added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh and eighth inning, adding three to their lead. Stevens took the win 8-1, making them 15-1 in conference play.
The Aggies' next game is Saturday, April 19
th for their doubleheader against the Ducks.
