Benkwitt and Schneider Score in Loss to Knights

GLENDALE, Pa. – Ashton Benkwitt and Kieran Schneider each found the back of the net as Delaware Valley fell to Arcadia University, 24-2, on Wednesday evening.

Down by five in the first quarter, the Aggies were finally able to set up in the offensive zone, but before they could get a shot off, the shot clock expired.

Early in the second quarter, with 12:33 left on the clock, goalie Daniel Hickling made a save and launched a long pass to Benkwitt, who fired the ball into a vacated net from 50 yards out — putting DelVal on the board. The Knights quickly responded with a pair of goals to make it 10-1, prompting head coach Will Lawlor to call a timeout. Around the midway mark of the quarter, the Aggies had a couple of chances from Luke Witko and Schneider, but both shots sailed wide. Arcadia stayed relentless, stretching its lead to 16-1 at the halftime break.

To open the third quarter, the Knights missed two shots and hit the post before capitalizing on a turnover during a clear attempt, pushing the lead further. They extended the score to 22-1 before the Aggies recorded another shot — this time from Schneider with 2:31 remaining. He followed that up a minute later with two more attempts, one saved and the other wide.

Five minutes into the fourth quarter, after cycling the ball around the perimeter, Schneider beat a defender and picked the top corner for DelVal's second goal of the game. Dalton Richter tried to build on the momentum shortly after, but his shot missed the target. The Aggies' final scoring opportunity came with just under four minutes to go, but attempts by Benkwitt and Witko couldn't connect.

Hickling stood tall in net, playing all 60 minutes and making 22 saves.

With the loss, the Aggies dropped to 4-9 overall and 0-4 in MAC Freedom play. Conference action continues on Saturday, April 19, as DelVal travels to FDU-Florham.
