DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley University baseball team drops a non-conference game against the Ravens from Rosemont College after a four-run eighth inning.
Starting pitcher
Nick Covolus opened strong, delivering two scoreless innings and allowing just one hit. The Ravens broke through in the top of the third with a lead-off double. A sacrifice bunt moved the runner to third, and a slow ground ball to second base brought in the game's first run. The Aggies threatened to tie it in the bottom of the fourth after
Blake Ramos doubled and
Nate Ludwick drew a walk. However, the Ravens shut down the rally with back-to-back strikeouts.
The Ravens added four insurance runs in the top of the sixth, capitalizing on two hits and a pair of Aggie errors. J. Palladino started the inning with a lead-off double down the left field line and advanced to third on a fielder's choice misplay. A follow-up double down the right field line drove in two runs, extending the lead to 3-0. With a runner on second, another Aggie error put two more runners aboard. Both eventually scored—one on a sacrifice fly and the other on another Aggie error.
The Aggies' offense came alive in the bottom of the eighth, sparked by a
Patrick Higgins single to right field.
Reese Hackett followed with a fielder's choice, but both runners were safe after the Ravens' shortstop pulled off the bag. With the bases loaded,
Blake Ramos lined out to left, putting the Aggies on the board.
Nate Ludwick followed with a double, trimming the deficit to 8-2. Two more runs came across on a ground-out to second and a clutch two-out single by
Jared Ecenroad, bringing the Aggies within four. The Ravens responded with three more runs on two hits in the top of the ninth, sealing the 11-4 victory.
The Aggies' next game is Friday, April 18
th at 3:00 p.m. when they travel to face the Ducks from Stevens Institute of Technology.
