DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley University baseball team fall to the Knights from Arcadia University after a three-run home run to push the Knights to a 9-3 win.
After a scoreless first inning, the Knights broke through in the top of the second, loading the bases and capitalizing on a wild pitch to plate the game's first run. Starting pitcher
Derek Cannon worked his way out of the jam with a strikeout to end the inning. The Knights added to their lead in the third, stringing together a double and a single to push across another run.
The Aggies quickly cut into the two-run deficit in the bottom of the third.
Gavin Migliori started the offense with a sneaky lead-off bunt down the third base line, reaching safely to give the Aggies a much-needed base runner. After stealing second, Migliori came around to score after
Reese Hackett delivered a single to left field and a fielder's choice play, trimming the Knights' lead to 2–1. The Knights responded in the top of the fourth, using a well-placed bunt that added another insurance run and restore their two-run lead.
The Knights made a pitching change to curb the Aggies' offense in the bottom of the fourth inning. After a line-out to the third baseman,
Daniel Murphy singled to left field and advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt. Migliori gave the Aggies their second run of the game after doubling down the left field line. Once again, the Aggies trailed by one run. The Knights scored once more in the top of the fifth and the top of the seventh giving them a 5-2 lead.
Patrick Higgins sparked the Aggies' offense in the bottom of the seventh, reaching first on a Knight error. After advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt, Higgins came around to score on a single from
Liam Martin, putting the Aggies back within two. With two Knights in scoring position, A. Bruno homered giving Arcadia an 8-3 cushion. They scored once more in the top of the ninth off of two hits taking the 9-3 win.
The Aggies' next game is Tuesday, April 15
th at 3:30 p.m. when they face the Ravens from Rosemont College in a non-conference match-up.
