CAMDEN, NJ. – The Delaware Valley University baseball team racks in seven runs with six different Aggies recording RBIs against the Scarlet Raptors from Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference game.
After a scoreless first inning, the Scarlet Raptors took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after two back-to-back singles and a fielder's choice play. The Raptors scored four more runs in the bottom of the third off of four singles and a sacrifice ground-out.
The Aggies responded in the top of the fourth when
Patrick Higgins ripped a stand-up triple down the right field line.
Blake Ramos followed with a ground-out to second, allowing Higgins to cross the plate for DelVal's first run of the game. However, Rutgers-Camden quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning with a bunt single and a triple to right center, restoring their five-run lead at 6-1. The Aggies managed to halt further damage with an unassisted double play by first baseman
Nate Ludwick.
Reese Hackett provided another spark for DelVal in the fifth, lifting a sacrifice fly to center to bring in a run and cut the deficit to 6-2. But once again, the Raptors countered with a run of their own in the bottom half, maintaining a five-run lead.
The Aggies kept fighting in the sixth. After Ramos was hit by a pitch, he advanced to third on a wild pitch and a ground-out, before scoring on
John Dzielawa's RBI ground-out. Rutgers-Camden once again added one run afterwards, giving them another five run lead. In the seventh,
James Miskanic reached base on an error and later scored when
Gavin Migliori roped a double down the left field line. The Raptors scored another run after a double and another sacrifice fly.
Ramos and Ludwick found themselves back on the bases after back-to-back singles that started the top of the eighth inning. After a fielder's choice play from Boyer, Ramos scored putting the Aggies within four runs again, the score 9-5. After a lead-off walk from Miskanic in the ninth inning, Hackett doubled down the left field line with two outs, cutting the Raptors lead down to three. With Hackett on, Higgins singled to center field. The Aggies trailed the Raptors 9-7.
Higgins, Ramos, Dzielawa, Boyer, and Migliori each contributed an RBI in the game with Hackett recording two, but the Aggies couldn't close the gap as Rutgers-Camden held on for the 9-7 win. The Aggies' next game is Friday, April 4
