DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Delaware Valley University baseball team scores in three consecutive innings in loss to Fitchburg State College.
Travis Loewe started on the mound for the Aggies and after a Falcon single, ended at the top of the first with three fly-outs. After two consecutive walks and a single from
Blake Ramos, the Aggies had bases loaded early in the first inning.
Gavin Migliori drew a walk, giving the Aggies their first run of the inning. After a single to center field from
Nate Ludwick and a catcher's interference call, the Aggies took a 3-0 lead. To end the top of the second inning, the Aggies performed a 6-4-3 double-play which left one Falcon on base. The Aggies started off with bases loaded again in the bottom of the second inning. Ludwick singled to right field, adding one more to the scoreboard. Ramos eventually crossed home plate before the inning ended, giving the Aggies a 5-0 lead.
The Falcons fought back, scoring two runs on four hits to start the third inning. The Aggies answered back, scoring one more run of their own after a walk and a
Reese Hackett double to left center. Del Val still held the lead, 6-2. Both teams had a scoreless fourth inning and fifth inning. In the top of the sixth inning, the Falcons added two more runs on two hits and one Aggie error. Loewe pitched 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out two. In the bottom of the seventh inning,
Tyler Mellinger homered to right field. The Aggies still lead 7-4.
The Falcons had bases loaded in the eighth inning when the Aggies made a pitching change to
Nick Covolus. Covolus walked in a run, and with bases loaded, a Falcon hit a double scoring two more. The Aggies and the Falcons were tied 7-7. After a sacrifice fly, the Falcons took the lead 8-7. After a scoreless eighth inning for the Aggies, the Falcons added three more runs in the top of the ninth, taking home an 1107 win.
