DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Delaware Valley University baseball team drops late games to Bowdoin College and Gordon College in day three of spring break trip.
Game 1 vs. Bowdoin College
Reese Hackett started the Aggies offense in the first inning with a stand-up double. Two sacrifice ground-balls later, Hackett crosses home plate to put the Aggies up 1-0. The Polar Bears wasted no time tying the game, scoring one in the bottom of the second inning. The Aggies offense kick-started again after
Patrick Higgins singled and scored from a
Gavin Migliori double. Hackett drove out another single, adding one to the Aggies' 3-1 lead. Bowdoin once again tied the game, scoring two runs on three hits in the bottom of the third.
John Slover started off in the circle for the Aggies. He pitched four innings and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out two.
After two scoreless innings, Bowdoin took the lead 6-3 when a Polar Bear homered, scoring three runs. They added four more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and two more in the bottom of the eighth. The Aggies scored one more run in the ninth inning after Migliori scored on a
Liam Martin double. Bowdoin College took the 12-4 victory for their fifth straight win.
Game 2 vs. Gordon College
After three scoreless innings from both the Scots and the Aggies, Gordon College scored first after a Scot double and a throwing error that scored him. The Scots scored one more run in the fifth inning with one hit and one error. The Scots had the lead 2-0.
Nick Covolus pitched five innings for the Aggies only allowing two runs on two hits, while striking out seven.
The Aggies' offense came alive in the top of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded
Liam Martin singled to left center, scoring two runs to tie the game. The Aggies had bases loaded again after another walk and scored one run on a hit by pitch to take the lead 3-2. The Scots tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with one hit and another Aggie error. After an Aggie pitching change, the Scots scored four more runs on zero hits and two errors. Gordon College takes home their third win of the season, 7-3.
