Schneider Ties Single Game Goal Record in Win Over Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – After a brief skid, the Delaware Valley men's lacrosse team returned to the win column in dominant fashion, securing a 20-5 victory over Centenary University on Friday afternoon.

The Cyclones struck first, winning the opening faceoff and finding the back of the net just 36 seconds into the game off the stick of Wickkiser. However, Wickkiser was called for a cross-checking penalty, giving the Aggies a man-up opportunity. They capitalized quickly, as Luke Witko, assisted by Ryley Savering, buried the equalizer.

Moments later, Centenary turned the ball over on a failed clear attempt. After a wide shot by Kieran Schneider, Ryan Lindberg seized the opportunity, netting his third goal of the season to put DelVal ahead 2-1. Just 30 seconds later, another Cyclones turnover led to Ashton Benkwitt scooping up the ground ball and feeding Schneider, who converted to extend the lead to 3-1.

Centenary had some offensive zone time following a few Aggies turnovers but failed to register a shot on goal, eventually losing possession on a shot clock violation. The turnover proved costly, as Owen Kelly sprinted down the field and fired home DelVal's fourth goal with 4:37 left in the quarter.

A minute later, Sean Miller and Lindberg were denied by Centenary's goalie before Schneider battled for a loose ball and finished for his second goal of the game. Just before the first-quarter buzzer, Savering scored a man-down goal off a Lindberg assist, giving DelVal a commanding 6-1 lead.

Four minutes into the second quarter, freshman goalkeeper Hunter Cruson was tested for the first time in his career start, making back-to-back saves. The Aggies quickly transitioned down the field, and Kelly found Miller behind the net, who converted to make it 7-1.

Schneider continued his stellar performance, scoring back-to-back goals just over a minute apart—one assisted by Lindberg and the other by Benkwitt—pushing the lead to 9-1.

Centenary responded after winning the next faceoff, forcing Cruson to make another save. However, after regaining possession, the Cyclones finally broke through, cutting the deficit to 9-2. They struck again moments later following a DelVal turnover, as Rosko scored his second goal in three minutes.

DelVal regained control early in the third quarter. After an initial save on Savering's shot, Witko collected the rebound and found Kelly, who buried it to start the second-half scoring.

Following a faceoff violation, Centenary nearly responded, hitting the post before calling a timeout. Their momentum was short-lived, though, as Rosko was penalized for two minutes, giving DelVal a man-up opportunity. The Aggies capitalized, with Schneider forcing a turnover from the goalie and netting his fifth goal to push the lead to 11-3.

With 7:50 left in the third, Benkwitt and Kelly were both sent to the penalty box, leaving the Aggies two men down. Centenary took advantage, as Wickkiser scored on the power play to make it 11-4.

The Cyclones struggled to maintain possession, leading to another DelVal run. Schneider wrapped around the net and buried his sixth goal of the game, marking his 31st of the season. Off the ensuing faceoff, Witko fired wide, but Savering cleaned up the rebound with a goal of his own. Less than 30 seconds later, Schneider struck again, marking DelVal's third goal in just 90 seconds and extending the lead to 10.

DelVal continued to dominate in the fourth quarter, tacking on two quick goals in the opening five minutes, including a man-up tally from Witko following a too-many-men penalty against Centenary. The Cyclones took another cross-checking penalty, and the Aggies made them pay with two more goals just 16 seconds apart—one from Miller and another from Savering—stretching the lead to 18-4.

Centenary managed to score once more with six minutes remaining, but Savering answered with his fourth goal of the game, despite DelVal being a man down. Schneider capped off the scoring with 3:56 left, tying Chris Marren's single-game record with his eighth goal, sealing the 20-5 victory.

Cruson earned his first career win in goal, making seven saves and improving to 1-0 on the season.

With the win, the Aggies improve to 4-4 overall and will return to action on Tuesday, April 1, when they travel to Rosemont College—Coach Will Lawlor's alma mater—for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
