McKeegan Shines as Aggies Cruise Past Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team took an early lead thanks to the hot stick of Kyra McKeegan and never looked back defeating Immaculata 18-6 on the road.
 
Immaculata may have been the first to strike, but DelVal responded swiftly with back-to-back goals across a 36-second span from McKeegan to push the Aggies ahead. Ashley Birmingham controlled the draw off the second goal and went down to score and hand DelVal a 3-1 lead. The Mighty Macs capitalized on a turnover with just over three minutes to play netting their second goal of the game to cut the deficit to one, 3-2.
 
A green-card in the final seconds of the first quarter left DelVal a person-down to start the second. Immaculata attempted to even the score by firing off three shots during the offensive advantage sending one wide and two right into the stick of goalkeeper Emily Drake. McKeegan put together a solo 3-1 run over the next seven minutes to put the Aggies up by double, 6-3. Katie Martin and Daisy Kovacs netted their first goals of the game while Birmingham finished off the quarter with her second for the 10-3 lead heading into the half.
 
A scoreless five minutes to start the half was ended by the free position shot from McKeegan to extend the lead to eight, 11-3. The Mighty Macs responded with a single goal, but Abbie Hostetler answered the call for the Aggies with back-to-back goals in the final minute making the lead nine. 13-4.
 
Two minutes ran off the clock in the fourth quarter before McKeegan netted her seventh of the game to give DelVal the double-digit lead. Birmingham followed up with a free position shot to further the lead to eleven, 15-4. Immaculata held position over the next three minutes netting two goals to bring the deficit down to single digits, 15-6. The Aggies dominated possession over the next five minutes, scoring three more off the sticks of Gabriella Guerra and Hostetler for the win, 18-6.
 
McKeegan led the team in goals with seven and assists with two for a team-high total of nine points. She fired 17 shots in the game, placing 12 on goal. Guerra led the Aggies in ground balls with seven. Birmingham led in draw controls with four.
 
DelVal returns to action at home on Robert A. Lipinski Field this Saturday, March 29 when they host Kean at 1 p.m.
