Baseball Scores Early in Both Games Against Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. – The Delaware Valley University baseball team scored early in both games against the 17th-ranked Misericordia Cougars in their MAC Freedom Conference doubleheader.
 
Game 1 | Misericordia 10 - Delaware Valley 1

The Aggies quickly put up a run in the first inning with a solo home run from Reese Hackett. After a 5-4-3 double play, Blake Ramos doubled but was left on base after a strikeout. The Aggies' lead did not last long as the Cougars put up three runs on two hits immediately after. The inning ended after two strikeouts from starting pitcher Connor Esbenshade.
 
 The Aggies left two runners stranded in the top of the second after Patrick Higgins and Gavin Migliori singled to center field. Misericordia scored four more runs on four hits, increasing their lead to 7-1. The Cougars scored one more in the third, fourth, and fifth the lead now 10-1. Esbenshade pitched four innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits while striking out three.
 
Game 2 | Misericordia 19 - Delaware Valley 4

 The Aggies kick-started their offense in the first inning after Hackett doubled to left field. Daniel Murphy reached first on a throwing error which scored Hackett. With Murphy standing on third, Ramos flied out to center field giving the Aggies an early 2-0 lead. The Cougars decreased the Aggies lead, scoring one in the bottom of the inning on two hits.
 
Starting off the second inning, Tyler Mellinger doubled toward center field and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Hackett singled again scoring Mellinger, their lead now 3-1. The Cougars fought back and took the lead after scoring three runs on three hits. They added three more runs in the bottom of the third, their lead now 7-3. After a wild pitch and a walk from the Aggies, Misericordia scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
 
The Cougars saw another Aggie pitching change in the bottom of the sixth and scored eight more runs off of six hits and two errors. The Aggies trailed 19-3. In the bottom of the inning, Migliori homered, and the Cougars took the win 19-4.
 
The Aggies' next game is Wednesday, March 26th at 3:00 p.m. when they travel to face the Highlanders from Cairn University.
