DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley University baseball team scores two runs in the eighth inning in loss to Misericordia.
With bases loaded in the top of the first inning, the Cougars scored first from a ground-out to Aggie shortstop
James Miskanic. The inning ended with two Cougars left on base. The Aggies attempted to tie the game after
Patrick Higgins walked and
Liam Martin singled, but they were quickly shut down by Misericordia's defense. The Cougars scored four more runs in the second inning on five hits, taking a 5-0 lead. After an Aggie error, Misericordia added one more run to their lead in the top of the third inning. With two outs and Martin on base, A. Schneider flied out to center field, ending the inning.
After four more runs in the fourth inning, the Aggies' defense shut the Cougars scoring run down in the fifth inning. Misericordia held the lead 10-0. The halt did not last long after the Cougars added one to the board in the top of the sixth after a sacrifice fly to left field. They added five more runs to their 16-0 lead in the top of the seventh on four hits.
After seven scoreless innings from the Aggies, their offense woke up.
Ayden Hinkel reached first on an error and advanced to second after
Tyler Mellinger singled to center field.
Daniel Murphy followed up with a single giving the Aggies their first run of the game. With bases loaded,
Gavin Migliori hit a high fly ball to left field, scoring Mellinger. The Cougars still held the lead 17-2. With bases loaded, the Cougars scored one more on a wild pitch, taking the 18-2 win.
The Aggies' next game is Saturday, March 21
st at 12 p.m. where they travel for the doubleheader against Misericordia University.
