Aggies Fall to Alvernia at Home

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley men's lacrosse team fell to Alvernia on Saturday evening, suffering a 16-2 defeat. Kieran Schneider accounted for both goals for the Aggies.

The Golden Wolves took control early, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter. Daniel Hickling started in goal for the Aggies, making three saves before Delaware Valley got on the board. With two minutes remaining in the period, Schneider capitalized on a man-up opportunity, netting his team-leading 18th goal of the season. However, Alvernia responded quickly with back-to-back goals in the final minute, extending their lead to 6-1 at the end of the quarter.

Alvernia's Howley wasted no time in the second quarter, scoring within the first minute to make it 7-1. Two minutes later, Moats added his first goal of the night off an assist from Keenan. The Aggies had another man-up opportunity with 9:15 remaining, but Ashton Benkwitt's shot was saved. Kreis then found the back of the net for Alvernia with 1:23 left, sending the teams into halftime with the Golden Wolves leading 11-1.

Delaware Valley had a two-man advantage early in the third quarter but was unable to generate a shot on goal. Later, Ryan Lindberg fired a shot on net, but it was stopped by Alvernia's Sabarese. The Aggies continued to apply pressure, earning another man-up opportunity where Benkwitt and Sean Miller each registered shots, but both were denied. Hickling added four more saves in the frame, bringing his total to 10 by the end of the third.

Three minutes into the fourth quarter, the Aggies capitalized on a turnover, as Ryley Savering connected with Schneider for Delaware Valley's second goal of the game. However, Alvernia quickly responded, taking advantage of a man-up opportunity to notch their 15th goal. The Aggies had one final power play with three minutes remaining, during which Benkwitt recorded two more shots, both saved. Alvernia tacked on one last goal in the final minute, securing the 16-2 victory. Hickling finished the night with 14 total saves.

With the loss, the Aggies drop to 3-2 on the season. They return to action on Saturday, March 22, when they travel to face Marywood at 1 p.m.
