BALTIMORE, Md. – The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team had nine different players combine for a total of 18 goals to defeat Notre Dame University of Maryland by the team's largest margin of victory yet this season, 18-3.
Ashley Birmingham let only 21 seconds run off the clock before netting the first goal of the game. A 30-second spurt just a minute later saw two consecutive goals from the duo of Birmingham and
Charley Lengel-Kramer to push the Aggies ahead by three, 3-0. The teams went scoreless over the next six minutes before
Kyra McKeegan found the back of the cage. Notre Dame managed to get one past
Emily Drake with just 17 seconds in the quarter to keep the deficit to three, 4-1.
DelVal broke open the score in the second quarter, netting nine more goals while holding Notre Dame scoreless through the entire frame.
Gabriella Guerra and Birmingham kicked off the run with goals just eight seconds apart before
Katie Martin netting back-to-back goals to make it an 8-1 game. Lengel-Kramer, Birmingham and Guerra each added another goal to their tallies over a 45-second span. McKeegan went on to assist Birmingham with her fourth goal of the game to give the Aggies an 11-goal lead. A yellow card on Notre Dame left them exposed with
Leilani Eckert capitalizing for the Aggies with a man-up goal to create a 12-goal lead heading into the half.
The Aggies continued their scoring streak out of the break with four unanswered goals in the third quarter leaving DelVal with a 17-1 lead. Lengel-Kramer dished out two goals while both
Samantha Charles and
Abbie Hostetler found the back of the net in man-down situations.
Notre Dame held the Aggies scoreless through the majority of the final quarter putting up two more goals of their own.
Rachel Walkup netted the only goal for the Aggies in the fourth quarter finding the back of the net at 0:28 to make the game 18-3.
Lengel-Kramer and Birmingham led the Aggies in scoring with four goals apiece. Birmingham led in shots with nine and tied McKeegan in shots in goal with six.
Alyssa Rudd scooped up a team-high seven ground balls. Drake played all 60 minutes in the net making seven saves and giving up just three goals for a .700 save percentage in the game.
The Aggies return to action this Saturday, March 15 when they host Wilkes at 1 p.m.
