McKeegan Leads Aggies to Victory over Wilkes

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team took an early 11-goal lead over Wilkes and never looked back defeating the Colonels 20-4 on Saturday afternoon. Kyra McKeegan led the charge with a team-high eight goals for the Aggies.

The dynamic duo of McKeegan and Ashley Birmingham wasted little time putting the Aggies on the board first just 25 seconds into action. Birmingham went on to tally one more goal in DelVal's ensuing eight-goal run while McKeegan earned a hattrick contributing three. Katie Martin, Abbie Hostetler and Gabriella Guerra all added to the scoring effort in the first quarter to give DelVal an 8-0 lead after 15 minutes.

Hostetler continued the Aggies scoring streak in the second quarter, adding her second of the game to push DelVal to a 9-0 lead. About a minute later, Charley Lengel-Kramer found scoring-machine McKeegan for her fourth of the game. The momentum continued for the graduate student who netted her fifth, and the Aggies' 11th, goal of the contest thanks to the help of Birmingham to give DelVal an 11-0 edge. A yellow-card on Lengel-Kramer allowed Wilkes to capitalize on the man-up advantage putting up their first goal of the game before the end of the half.

The Aggies added three more goals in the third quarter while holding the Colonels to just one. Martin added her second of the game followed by McKeegan with her sixth off a free position to make the score 13-1. Wilkes responded to cut the lead back down to 11, but Leilani Eckert netted the final goal of the quarter to push the Aggies' lead back up to 12, 14-2.

Momentum swung in the direction of the Colonels with two goals in the first five minutes of the final quarter. The Aggies swiftly responded with three unanswered goals in three minutes from Hostetler, Birmingham and McKeegan to make it a 17-4 game. McKeegan, Birmingham and Daisy Kovacs put up three more before the end of the game to push the Aggies to a 16-goal victory, 20-4.

Emily Drake played all 60 minutes in the net making four saves. Guerra led the Aggies in draw controls with six. McKeegan led the ground ball category with seven. Birmingham forced a team-high three turnovers.

DelVal returns to action on Wednesday, March 19 at Manhattanville at 4 p.m.
