Schneider Sets Program Single Game Points Record in Win Over Cairn

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Kieran Schneider set a new Delaware Valley men's lacrosse single-game points record in a dominant 17-5 home opener win over Cairn University on Wednesday night.

Sean Miller fired the first shot on goal after Juan Zurita won the opening faceoff, but it was Cole Heffler who struck first for the Highlanders, scoring just 1:11 into the game. Schneider quickly responded for the Aggies, tying the game as they ramped up the pressure, firing seven more shots toward the net. Cairn reclaimed the lead at the 6:57 mark with Heffler's second goal. However, with just a minute remaining in the first quarter, a Highlanders turnover proved costly as Owen Kelly capitalized, netting his first collegiate goal. Cairn briefly regained the advantage, but Schneider buried another shot with just seven seconds left, leveling the score once again.

Schneider wasted no time in the second quarter, scoring just 1:30 in off an assist from Luke Witko. Daniel Hickling came up with key saves to keep the Aggies ahead, and with 4:11 left in the half, DelVal began to pull away. Goals from Schneider, Kelly, Miller, and Witko in quick succession extended the lead before halftime.

The Aggies carried their momentum into the third quarter. Ashton Benkwitt forced an early turnover, scooped up the ground ball, and set up Witko for a goal to push the lead to 9-3. Ryley Savering then caught fire, netting three straight goals in a span of just three minutes, followed by another tally from Schneider. Cairn managed to get one back late in the quarter as Jacob Lingerman found the net, making it 13-4 heading into the final frame.

DelVal continued to dominate possession in the fourth, hemming the Highlanders in their own zone. Five minutes in, Kelly set up Schneider for yet another goal. Following the score, the Aggies made a goalie switch, bringing in Hunter Cruson. Cairn broke through for one final goal at the 4:40 mark, but Cruson responded with a key save. A strong DelVal clear led to back-to-back goals from Schneider, sealing the 17-5 victory.

Schneider's record-breaking performance—eight goals and three assists for 11 points—surpassed the previous single-game points record set by PJ Rafferty in 2020 against Gwynedd Mercy.

The Aggies open the 2025 season at 1-0 and return to action on Saturday, March 1, against Mount Saint Vincent at 3:00 p.m.
