Men's Hoops Outlasts PSU-Abington in Tight Road Battle

ABINGTON, Pa. – Three Aggies scored in double figures as Delaware Valley men's basketball secured its first win of the season, defeating PSU-Abington on the road, 86-82.

Down 4–3 early, JT Wright hit a three before Jeremiah Alexander sank a jumper to take a 7–4 lead five minutes in. The Nittany Lions briefly retook the advantage, but Alexander was fouled and hit both free throws. After struggling from the line in the opener against Susquehanna, the Aggies went 15-for-16 (93.8%) at the stripe in the first half.

With DelVal up three with 8:27 remaining, Murphy and Jake McGinty traded threes, followed by ten consecutive free throws by Antonio Redding, Wright, Ryan Everett, and Mike Herrin. A bucket from Alexander capped the stretch, building a 33–18 lead. Abington responded with a 7–0 run, but a three-point play by Jordan Strickland sent the Aggies into halftime up eight.

Redding and Herrin knocked down back-to-back threes to open the second half as both teams heated up from deep. Bradford ended a short scoreless spell with a layup-and-one, but threes by Kelly and Fox brought Abington within three. Wright answered with a triple of his own to make it 55–47. The Lions took the lead with nine minutes to go, but Herrin's free throws put DelVal back in front.

Kamal Johnson then came up with a steal and fed Strickland for a thunderous dunk over a defender, forcing an Abington timeout with five minutes remaining. Out of the break, Alexander blocked his sixth shot of the night, and Wright converted two at the line after drawing a foul. Redding followed with a long three, prompting a DelVal timeout up 67–64.

Tensions rose after a Wright three-pointer, and following a foul on Abington, Redding drained a step-back jumper to extend the lead to six. Herrin buried another three with 1:45 to play, and a long pass from Everett sent Bradford in alone for a layup to seal the 86–82 win.

The Aggies, now 1–1 overall, will travel to Riverdale to face the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, Nov. 15.
