DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley field hockey team knocked down Wooster in overtime at home on Wednesday night marking the team's second-straight overtime victory and third total this season.
Four offensive penalty corners through the first four minutes left the Aggies with two shots. The first from
Maggie Fijal stopped by the Fighting Scots goalie and the second sent wide by
Brynne Miller. DelVal had its final attempt of the frame in the 13
th minute when another offensive penalty corner set
Kenzie Boyd up for the shot stopped by the goalie.
Three minutes into the second quarter, the Aggies drew their sixth offensive penalty corner of the game.
Kaylee Hartung sent the insert to Boyd who passed it off to Miller for the goal to put DelVal on top, 1-0. With just under three minutes before half, Wooster snuck one past
Brooke Golbeski off a penalty corner to even the score at the break, 1-1.
DelVal came out of the half fast and furious with four shots across a 1:45 span. Two of the shots found their way into the pads of the Wooster goalkeeper while the other two were stuffed by Wooster's defense. The Aggies tallied five more shots through the rest of regulation unable to convert the goal to send the game into overtime.
The Aggies controlled the overtime not allowing the ball beyond the fifty.
Alex Graffius got the first breakaway going one-on-one with the goalie for the shot saved. A minute later Hartung sent a shot wide followed by a shot from Miller saved. 10 seconds later the Aggies drew the foul in the circle to earn the offensive penalty corner. Hartung went down to the line for the insert, sending a smooth ball to Miller in the top right. Miller dumped the ball left to Boyd for the rocket shot into the bottom left of the goal for the win.
Graffius and Boyd ended the game with a team-high five shots apiece for the Aggies. Both also tallied three shots on goal. Boyd and Miller both recorded assists in the game. Golbeski played the entire game in the cage making three stops on four shots faced.
DelVal is back in action this Saturday, Oct. 11 when they open up MAC Freedom play hosting Arcadia for a 1 p.m. matchup.
