DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley field hockey team celebrated seniors Kaylee Hartung, Kenzie Boyd, Olivia Rexrode, Brynne Miller, and graduate student goalkeeper Brooke Golbeski ahead of Saturday's matchup against Hood College.
Golbeski was tested early, making a stop two minutes into the game, followed by another shot drifting wide shortly after. Hood earned their first penalty corner at 6:43, but the attempt went wide. On the next corner, Golbeski came up with another stop. With five minutes remaining in the first quarter, Maggie Fijal scored off a nice setup from Miller, putting the Aggies up 1-0. Natalie Ott had a shot stopped just before the quarter ended.
In the third quarter, each team recorded one shot on goal, with Hood earning the only corner, which they failed to convert.
Four minutes into the final quarter, Hood tested Golbeski again, but Roessler's shot sailed wide. The Aggies had back-to-back corner chances, only getting one shot off by Boyd, which was blocked. Another corner opportunity a minute later saw Miller's shot saved. Hood continued to pressure, forcing DelVal to block a shot and Golbeski to make a kick save. The Blazers tied the game on their next corner, with Hackett finding the back of the net with 2:39 remaining, sending the match to overtime.
In overtime, DelVal stopped an early corner from Hood and pushed the ball the other way, earning three corners. On the third corner, Boyd sent a shot to Alex Graffius, whose deflection found the back of the net, giving the Aggies the victory.
Following the senior day win, Delaware Valley improves to 4-5 on the season. They will wrap up non-conference play against The College of Wooster on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
