Men's Soccer Earns First-Ever Victory Over Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. – The Delaware Valley men's soccer team recorded its first-ever program victory over Misericordia University with a 2-1 road win on Tuesday evening.

On the first shot of the game in the seventh minute, Roy Hevener put the Aggies on the board, finding the back of the net from 25 yards out after a bounce in the slot. Gianluca D'Alterio nearly doubled the lead a few minutes later, but his shot was saved. Misericordia recorded its first attempt in the 21st minute, but goalkeeper Nick Becker was there for the stop. Jamieson fired a shot wide for the Cougars before Hevener had one blocked, and DelVal carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Just five minutes into the second half, Nathan Congdon threaded a pass between two defenders to D'Alterio, who finished low left to extend the lead to 2-0. Misericordia answered with pressure, having one attempt blocked and another go high before D'Alterio had a shot of his own turned away in the 67th minute. Shortly after, Hevener was issued a yellow card, but the Aggies' wall held strong to block the ensuing free kick.

Becker came up with two more saves before Misericordia finally broke through, as Eisenhart found the net low left with 14 minutes remaining. DelVal's defense tightened down the stretch, blocking two more Cougar attempts after Becker made his fourth save of the night. Yellow cards were issued to DelVal's Everett Kurtz and Misericordia's Stiles before the final whistle.

With the win, the Aggies improve to 10-4-2 overall and 2-2-2 in MAC Freedom play. They will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 1, hosting Stevens Institute of Technology for Senior Day at 2:00 p.m.
