Men’s Soccer Drops Conference Match to Arcadia at Home

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – A second-half push by the Delaware Valley men's soccer team fell short as they dropped a 2-0 decision to Arcadia University on Wednesday evening.

It wasn't until the 14th minute that Zydan Stewart recorded the first shot of the game, sailing it high after both squads opened with tight defensive play. Nick Becker made his first stop shortly after, but 30 seconds later, he was whistled for a foul while coming out to grab the ball. Arcadia's Sean Lock converted the ensuing penalty kick to put the Knights ahead 1-0.

Both teams traded shots in the 24th minute, and the Aggies forced a pair of saves 10 minutes later on attempts from Roy Hevener and Gianluca D'Alterio. Delaware Valley nearly equalized late in the half when Justin Bennell's shot was deflected by a leaping Tomasz Razukiewicz off the crossbar, keeping Arcadia's lead intact at the break.

Just two minutes into the second half, the Knights doubled their advantage as Watkins sent a pass up to Scott, who beat Becker low to the right. Becker came up with a save on Scott again in the 58th minute before the Aggies earned a corner, but Josh DiFillipo's attempt was stopped.

Arcadia's Lausch fired a close-range shot that was blocked, and with 17 minutes left, Aaron Osborne connected on a header that was saved. In the 75th minute, Bennell rattled the crossbar with a long-range effort as the Aggies continued to press. Kelvin Murray was issued a yellow card in the 82nd minute shortly after subbing in, and head coach Shaq Stephenson was also shown a yellow card late in the contest.

With the loss, the Aggies fall to 9-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in MAC Freedom play. They return to action on Saturday, October 25, when they travel to Madison, N.J., to take on FDU-Florham.
