CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Delaware Valley field hockey team took an early 1-0 lead over DeSales, but two fourth-quarter goals by the Bulldogs prevailed to force the Aggies into a loss, 2-1.
DeSales controlled the offense early with four shots and one penalty stroke through the first seven minutes of the game. All attempts proved to be no match for Aggies goalkeeper Brooke Golebeski making five saves through the spurt.
The momentum swung in the Aggies direction in the 10
th minute earning back-to-back offensive penalty corners.
Brynne Miller fired off a shot on the second attempt stopped by the Bulldogs goalkeeper. Miller collected her own rebound off the left post and passed back to
Kaylee Hartung who found
Kenzie Boyd in the middle for the goal putting the Aggies head 1-0.
The Aggies defense was put to the test through the rest of the first half with the Bulldogs firing off 16 shots over an 18-minute span. Golbeski recorded 10 saves during the stretch and
Lillian Plank recorded her first career defensive save.
DeSales continue to control the offense in the third frame holding the Aggies shotless while tallying seven shots of their own. Golbeski made another five saves in the series and Plank added a second defensive save.
The Bulldogs 12 penalty corners in the final quarter proved to be too much for DelVal to overcome. The Aggies defense fended off six shots in the first five minutes blocking three and Golbeski stopping two. DeSales broke through in the final 10 minutes scoring in both the 50
th and 55
th minutes to take the lead and ultimately the win, 2-1.
Golbeski nearly doubled her season-high saves with a total of 25 in the contest.
DelVal returns to action on the road this Wednesday Oct. 22 to face King's at 4 p.m.
