DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley field hockey goalkeeping duo of
Brooke Golbeski and
Gracyn Shutt combined for 13 saves on 17 shots in a hard-fought 4-0 loss to Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday night.
Lebanon Valley controlled much of the opening quarter, firing six shots and capitalizing on one to take an early 1-0 lead. Golbeski made two key saves in the frame, while
Jillian Collins anchored the Aggies' defense to limit further damage.
DelVal found some momentum early in the second quarter, breaking into the Flying Dutchmen's circle twice in the opening minutes. However, the LVC defense held strong, keeping the Aggies without a shot. DelVal continued to press and earned its first offensive penalty corner in the 20th minute, but couldn't convert.
On the defensive end, Golbeski and company fended off a pair of shots off an LVC corner in the 23rd minute, drawing a foul to regain possession. The Flying Dutchmen quickly regained control and extended their lead to 2-0 less than two minutes later.
A defensive penalty corner late in the half once again tested Golbeski, who made four straight saves before LVC broke through to make it 3-0 heading into halftime.
In the second half, Golbeski and Shutt split time in goal, each manning the cage for a quarter. Golbeski added two more saves in the third, while Shutt stopped three shots in the fourth but allowed one final goal to seal the 4-0 result.
The Aggies return to action on Saturday, October 18, when they travel to DeSales for a 1 p.m. MAC Freedom matchup.
