Men’s Soccer Drops Tight Conference Battle at LVC

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Delaware Valley men's soccer team dropped the lead twice and ultimately fell to Lebanon Valley College, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides had early chances blocked before Zydan Stewart opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finishing a feed from Justin Bennell to put the Aggies up 1-0. The Dutchmen responded quickly, forcing goalkeeper Nick Becker to make a pair of saves in the 13th minute. After a foul on Braeden Rawlings, LVC's Prex netted the equalizer in the 27th minute. Josh DiFillipo had a shot stopped late in the half, while Becker came up with three more saves to keep it level at the break.

Just a minute into the second half, the Aggies regained the lead as Gianluca D'Alterio buried his ninth goal of the season off a long ball from a goal kick. LVC kept the pressure on but sent two shots wide and had another blocked before picking up a yellow card in the 68th minute. Moments later, a foul by DiFillipo in the box awarded the Dutchmen a penalty, and Prex converted for his second goal of the day to tie it, 2-2.

With just over 10 minutes remaining, Becker made a diving save to his right on a shot from Ammon, but moments later, Groff scored on a one-timer in front to give Lebanon Valley its first lead of the match. DiFillipo and the DelVal bench were shown yellow cards for arguing a missed call before the goal.

Following the loss, the Aggies fall to 8-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in MAC Freedom play. They return home to host King's College on Saturday, October 18, at 1 p.m.
