Aggies Fall to DeSales in Double Overtime

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After overcoming a seven-point deficit in the second half, the Delaware Valley men's basketball team forced double-overtime, ultimately dropping the contest to DeSales 93-80 on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies fall to 8-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference. The Bulldogs improve to 9-8 on the season and 3-3 in the conference.

The lead changed hands three times before a Jake McGinty three started an 8-0 run to take a seven-point lead over the Bulldogs, 12-5. DeSales cut the lead down to two before JT Wright III put together a solo four-point performance to regain a five-point edge for the Aggies, 17-12.

Tied 24-24 with 4:19 left in the half, McGinty converted another long ball to start the Aggies on an 11-2 run through the end of the half for a six-point lead, 32-26. Zoelin Pair and Kamal Johnson helped to keep the Aggies ahead by a margin of seven to start the second half. DeSales cut the deficit to two twice before converting the long ball to take a single-point lead.

The lead changed five more times with the Bulldogs pulling ahead by a margin of seven, 59-52, with 2:08 remaining in the game. Pair went 2-for-2 from the charity stripe beginning a 10-2 comeback to push the game into overtime.

Johnson put up the only four-points for DelVal in the first 2:20 to cut the Bulldogs lead to one, 67-66. DeSales answered with a three, but Pair saw 100% from the charity stripe to keep it a one-bucket game. The lead changed twice more before Antonio Redding sunk the three to tie the game, 74-74, and force a second overtime.

DeSales held the 19-6 edge over the Aggies in the final five minutes to take the game, 93-80.

With his four blocks in the game, Pair ties Chris Moran (2012-16) for second all-time in blocks with 125. The senior joined Redding in leading the Aggies in scoring for the game recording 17 points apiece. Pair also led the rebounding effort pulling down 12 boards.

DelVal returns to action this Wednesday, January 29  when they host Stevens at 7 p.m.
