DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – After an even first 40 minutes, the Delaware Valley men's basketball team outpaced FDU-Florham in overtime, securing a 73-67 victory.
The game started with Mike Herrin throwing a pass to Zoelin Pair, who slammed the ball in for the first points of the afternoon. Kamal Johnson followed with a three-pointer, and Pair and Herrin both scored layups. Antonio Redding added a three-pointer, putting the Aggies ahead 14-4 just four minutes into the game. The Devils fought back, cutting DelVal's lead to three and eventually took their first lead near the halfway mark of the first half. JT Wright III traded threes with Mac Creek, keeping the score close. With 5:18 left in the first half, Jaqwan Washington sank a layup, giving the Devils their largest lead at 29-22.
Johnson responded with another three-pointer, and Miles Demby stole the ball, taking it the distance for a dunk. Redding then got a pass back from Caleb Johnson and hit another three to give the Aggies a 32-31 lead going into halftime.
The second half began with Herrin scoring five straight points, but the Devils quickly matched the Aggies' efforts. With the score tied at 37, FDU-Florham went on an 8-0 run, most of it coming from free throws. At 12:02, Wright III hit another three to give the Aggies an 8-point lead. However, after several turnovers, the Devils regained the lead with eight minutes remaining. Redding responded with another three-pointer, but FDU-Florham went on a 10-0 run, gaining a five-point advantage.
With under a minute left, Redding made a layup, but the Devils missed a long-range three-pointer. After a timeout by Coach Kaba, Redding drained a three-pointer with three seconds left to tie the game, sending it into overtime.
In overtime, FDU-Florham turned the ball over twice early, allowing the Aggies to build a four-point lead. With time running out, the Devils resorted to fouling. Pair and Kamal Johnson made all their free throws from the charity stripe, sealing the victory for the Aggies.
Following the overtime win, the Aggies improve to 7-7 (2-1 MACF) and will be back in action at home on Saturday, Jan. 18, hosting Arcadia University.
