DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley men's basketball team led Lebanon Valley by as many as seven but struggled to slow the Flying Dutchmen offense in the final minutes dropping the contest 64-54 on Saturday afternoon.
The Aggies fall to 6-7 on the season and 1-1 in conference play while the Flying Dutchmen improve to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in MAC Freedom play.
Kamal Johnson led the charge putting up eight points in the Aggies' 14-7 run to start the first five minutes of play and force an LVC timeout. The Flying Dutchmen sank a three to come out of the break and turn the tides using a 10-2 run to take a single-point lead, 17-16, and force an Aggies break with 9:13 on the clock.
The lead changed three times ultimately landing in the hands of LVC who used a 10-5 spurt to gain a six-point edge with 3:41 to play, 29-23.
Mike Herrin led the Aggies in a 4-3 run to close out the half and cut the deficit to five, 32-27.
Trailing by seven,
Kamal Johnson sunk the three kickstarting a 7-0 run to even the score, 34-34. LVC shifted the lead, but Herrin answered the call shooting 2-of-2 from beyond the arc to put DelVal back on top, 40-38, with 15:44 on the clock. Sharp shooting from beyond the arc, 3-of-6, helped push the Flying Dutchmen back on top with a 13-4 run, 51-44.
Antonio Redding connected with
Jake McGinty for the three to make it a two-basket game, 51-47, with under 10 minutes remaining on the clock. LVC couldn't pull ahead by more than three before Johnson converted the layup and drew the foul for a successful one to make it a three-point game, 53-50. LVC's momentum prevailed with a 10-4 run to finish the game and secure the 64-54 victory.
Johnson led the Aggies in scoring with a team-high 18 points. Herrin and McGinty also ended the game in double-digit scoring with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Zoelin Pair led the battle at the boards pulling down 10 rebounds.
DelVal returns to action this Wednesday, Jan. 15 in James Work Gymnasium when they host FDU-Florham at 7 p.m.
