Aggies Record First Tie of Season Against Undefeated Pioneers

DOYLESTOWN Pa – The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team tied with the undefeated Pioneers of William Paterson University during a non-conference match-up.

The Aggies wasted no time grabbing an early 1-0 lead after Danny Henson scored from two consecutive passes from Rourke Watson and Roy Hevener during the third minute of the first half. The Pioneers had three consecutive opportunities six minutes later, but Nick Becker and Amos Debah held them off. Pepijn Middel had a solo opportunity after he broke away from the defense, but his shot sailed high. The Pioneers would eventually score, tying the game at 1-1 at the 34th minute.

After two missed shots to begin the second half, the Pioneers capitalized on their third, creating a 2-1 lead. After 10 minutes of back-and-forth action, the Aggies were rewarded a penalty kick after two Pioneer yellow cards. Debah's kick was saved, followed with a barely missed goal by Andrew Grunwald. At the 81st minute, Hevener was given an opportunity only for his shot to be blocked by a defenseman, but the ball deflected right into Debah, who scored an unassisted goal to tie the match.

Becker recorded six total saves and faced 27 shots.

The Aggies next game is Saturday, September 28th where they will travel to face the Eagles of Eastern University at 3:30 p.m.
