Fourth Quarter Offensive Push Falls Short, DelVal Drops Contest to Keystone

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley field hockey team outshot the Keystone Giants 11-3 in the final quarter but couldn't overcome the early single-goal deficit dropping the contest 1-0.

Up 1-0, the Giants made another attempt to penetrate the circle from the left side with a pass over to the center for the one-on-one with Aggies goalkeeper Alyssa Rudd who stepped out to stop the attack and keep it a one-goal game to end the first quarter.

DelVal saw its opportunity to even the score in the 26th minute when Alex Graffius passed to Paige Sammons at the left post for back-to-back shots unable to breakthrough Keystone's defense.

The Aggies earned just their third corner of the game in the 39th minute with the insert landing on the stick of Ashley Birmingham off to the right of the top of the circle for the shot across the front of the net and out of play.

The Aggies' offense fought back with just 10 minutes left on the clock earning five penalty corners over a three-minute spurt with Kaylee Hartung firing off four of the Aggies nine shots. DelVal controlled possession in the final minutes holding the Giants to a single shot while tallying two more of their own.

DelVal returns to action this Saturday, Sep. 28 when they travel to St. Davids, Pennsylvania to face Eastern at 11 a.m.
